Australian skipper, Steve Smith was caught on camera supposedly mouthing the words “f***ing cheat” at Murli Vijay on Day 3 of the decisive 4th Test between India and Australia in Dharamsala today. Smith seemed to have lost it at Vijay when the Indian claimed to have taken a catch which would send Australia’s last batsman Josh Hazlewood back to the pavilion.
The umpires, however, were not convinced and therefore considered the catch for the referral. Meanwhile, the Indian opener was seen leaving for the dressing to begin padding up for the Indian innings. Replays showed that the catch was grounded and third umpire Chris Gaffaney declared Hazlewood ‘not out’.
Smith, visibly enraged by Vijay’s conduct, was seen by television cameras mouthing the words “f***ing cheat”. This has only added to the drama that this test series has seen between the two cricketing giants in this already heated-up affair, following the infamous DRS controversy.
It is understood that the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) is not too happy with Smith’s behaviour but would not be filing any official complaint. While the BCCI would not specify what the abuse was, they were unhappy with the fact that Smith had abused Vijay, NDTV reported.
